Interested in joining the West Hartford Garden Club?
Our purpose is to stimulate interest and creative activity in the art of gardening and floral design; to enhance the beauty of our community and to contribute to civic improvement; and to work for the conservation of native plants and wildlife.
We are a working club, involved in all kinds of garden-related activities. We maintain the Butler-McCook Garden in Hartford and the Noah Webster Garden in West Hartford. We offer activities for children and senior citizens in our community. We teach our members flower arranging, conservation, horticulture, and trends in landscape design. For more information, please contact us. Every two years we sponsor a Garden Tour of local gardens. Please contact Mary for more information.
Our meetings are normally at noon on either the first or second Thursday of the month, September through June, at Saint John’s Episcopal Church in West Hartford. To see a list of our open meetings click here, and to reserve a spot at a meeting click here. A light lunch and a short meeting are followed by an interesting program, all within about two hours.
Requirements for Active membership: All Club members are strongly encouraged to attend four meetings during the program year and to serve on a standing committee. Members are strongly encouraged to participate in Flower Shows, Garden Tours and any Club-wide fundraising event. Every able-bodied member is strongly encouraged to participate at the Butler-McCook Gardens and at the Noah Webster Garden for at least one session between April and October. All new members are strongly encouraged to attend two basic courses in flower arranging within two years of joining the Club. To inquire about membership, please contact us.
Ikebana Workshop – A Blossoming Success!
The Floral Design Committee recently hosted an Introduction to Ikebana workshop on September 10 at Noah Webster House, where participants experienced the Japanese art of flower arranging. Guided by Bela Mandavilli along with committee member Rashmi Basal and committee co-chairs Nancy Lemega-Watt, Eva Jakuba, and Sharon Mulvey, attendees learned how to balance line, space, and harmony to create elegant and meaningful floral arrangements.
The room was filled with creativity and enthusiasm as each participant explored their own expression through flowers. Many shared how they enjoyed learning different flower arranging processes and felt even though it looked very simple it was challenging. We hope that everyone left not only with a beautiful arrangement, but also with a deeper appreciation for the art of simplicity and nature’s beauty.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended. It was a wonderful evening of learning and artistry, and we look forward to offering more such enriching workshops in the future.

For the Open House at the Governor’s Residence on June 14, 2025, WHGC members Sharon Mulvey and Nancy Lemega-Watt created two yellow, blue and white arrangements in vases from the residence for the gracious yellow dining room.
