Awards 2023
Conservation Award
Awarded to the Club for members’ efforts at Spice Bush Swamp Park for their work on the removal of invasive plants and replacing them with native trees and plants. This project was spearheaded initially by Madeleine Hexter.
Tribute Award in Civic Development
Awarded to Janice Schnabel for her lead in establishing the free Seed Library in collaboration with the West Hartford Public Library.
Award of Excellence
Garden Therapy, under the direction of Susan Lindberg and Marge Johnson, was presented an Award of Excellence for their work along with their committee at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation and Alfred E. Plant Housing.
Good Deed Citation
A Good Deed Citation was presented to Gina Trusiewicz for her work at Spice Bush Swamp Park, the Seed Library, and in recognition of her pastel artwork based on Spice Bush Swamp plantings which has been used for notecards sold by the club to support civic projects.
Luckner Club Citation
The Junior Gardeners Committee, under the direction of Tanya Guadalupe, received a Luckner Club Citation for their work at the Hillcrest Avenue Neighborhood Outreach Center.
Individual Conservation Citation
An Individual Conservation Citation was awarded to Beth Ann Sennett for engaging local citizens through outreach and education about environmental concerns for recycling and composting, organizing invasive plant removal parties and native pollinator plantings to improve the ecologically important Spice Bush Swamp Park.
