Celebrate the season and support the Wadsworth during this major holiday fundraiser. Each year, community members, artists, and volunteers from local organizations decorate holiday trees and wreaths, turning the galleries into a winter wonderland. All items are for sale and profits support the museum’s special exhibitions, programs, and operating expenses. Bring home the holiday cheer or donate your purchase to a local charity.
Festival of Trees & Traditions is presented by the Friends of the Wadsworth Atheneum. All proceeds from this event fund the museum’s special exhibitions, educational programs, and operating expenses.

Celebrate the magic of the holidays on the opening night of our annual Festival of Trees & Traditions and be the first to see the museum adorned with stunning seasonal decorations that shine brighter after hours. Eat, drink, and be merry in your ugly holiday sweater! End the night with a viewing of the film Love Actually and leave with personalized winter holiday-themed ornaments and greeting cards. Must be 21+ to attend. Cash bar. $25; $15 members. Tickets will be available via thewadsworth.org.

You will have the opportunity to find the best gifts for family and friends while also supporting small, local businesses this holiday season. Over 20 local vendors will be set up throughout the museum offering a wide range of art, crafts, and handmade gift items. The Holiday Market will be open for shopping on Friday, December 1 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, December 2 & 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The West Hartford Gift Shop is the anchor vendor at the Holiday Market and will have many products available, including the new cozy West Hartford and Connecticut sweaters and scarfs, the Julia Gash collection, featuring the town’s most iconic features and the places that make our town unique. The gift shop also carries a selection of literary-themed items including scarves, notecards, and drinkware.
The 2023 limited-edition West Hartford Collectible holiday ornament featuring the gazebo in the Helen S. Kaman Rose Garden located in Elizabeth Park will be available for purchase. A limited number of ornaments are available, so we recommend pre-ordering at westhartfordgiftshop.com. Ornaments may be picked up at the Holiday Market.
Artisans will be showcasing their artwork in many categories including jewelry, candles, pottery, notecards, woodworking pieces, fiber arts and so much more. A sampling of vendors includes WeHa Candle Co., Vivid Cottage, Bloom Worthy Floral and Taylor Martone Pottery and many more. For a full listing of vendors, check out our Facebook event page.

The museum suggests a $5 donation upon entry, which helps support museum educational initiatives.
The museum is offering this holiday tradition to support local businesses, many of them newer and without their own brick and mortar location. The businesses have an opportunity to showcase their products and sell directly to as well as return the favor by donating a portion of their proceeds to the museum. Planning to do an activity with greens and holiday themed decorations.
| Including native plants in your garden is a great way to help pollinators. Expand your native plantings inexpensively by growing them yourself from seed. We will discover the germination requirements for different kinds of seeds. We’ll plant and bring home a plastic milk jug filled with a seed selection to stratify over the winter. Proper after care will be discussed. Bring a clear (translucent), one-gallon plastic milk or water jug; we will supply the soil and seeds.
