Federated Garden Clubs of CT – 93rd Awards Meeting and Luncheon – October 26, 2022 REGISTRATION DEADLINE October 16, 2022

Garden Club members will come together at the Aqua Turf to see if they or their clubs have won any of the National, Regional or State Awards presented at the Annual Awards Meeting. This is a time to recognize outstanding contributions made in Youth Education, Community beautification, Horticultural excellence, Environmental awareness, and many other areas of garden club activities. The Federation’s highest honor, the Bronze medal is presented at this meeting,

Whether winners or not, all club members in attendance gain insights and ideas for their future club endeavors.

Registration begins at 9:00 A.M. Meeting commences at 10:00 A.M. Come early, enjoy coffee & tea and shop for unique products and gifts offered by our vendors.

Linda and Steve need several more people for this Friday to put the Butler-McCook garden to rest for the winter. We will start at 8:30 am on November 4. We will be digging out cannas and planting daffodils and tulips. Please respond to Linda by phone or text at 860-227-2730 if you can make it.

Rachael will show us how to create a Thanksgiving tablescape and how to transition it to Christmas and/or Hanukkah tablescapes.

A Holiday/Fall arrangement activity will be held for Club members at the Noah Webster House between 1-3 p.m. This is planned to be an unstructured, fun get together group activity. Those interested should bring plant material
and containers of their liking. In a case of veggie-based containers, we ask that these are already hollowed as we need to clear the meeting room in NWH promptly by 3 p.m.

Shrubs now come in sizes from 12″ to 24″, just the right size to take the place of perennials in your borders and gardens. They dazzle with their foliage and flowers and require almost no maintenance. Join Lorraine Ballato as she introduces these newer shrubs and discusses how to integrate them into your garden.

Lorraine Ballato is a professional horticulturist who shares her knowledge through lectures, social media, and magazines. You can find her contributions in Connecticut Gardener, Edible Nutmeg, Coast of Maine, and more. She has been an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden for more than 10 years and can be found on numerous gardening radio programs and podcasts.

When she is not in her own garden, Lorraine volunteers her time to the Fairfield County Master Gardener Organic Vegetable Demonstration Garden in Bethel, CT. There, she works with a team of Master Gardeners and interns, teaching the public about growing vegetables organically. Their combined efforts result in annual food bank contributions of more than 1000 pounds.

Lorraine’s latest book is the best-selling Success With Hydrangeas, A Gardener’s Guide. Prior to that, she published Successful Self Watering Containers: Converting Your Favorite Container to a Self-Waterer.
