Dahlia Challenge is happening!
Since there seems to be enough interest, we have decided to go ahead with the Dahlia Challenge.
We ask club members to bring their dahlias to St. James’s on Saturday, September 11, between 9-10 am.
Deirdre Penland will be there to help orient you.
• There you will fill out an entry card for the dahlia challenge. Each dahlia will get a number and the entry card will have a place for the name of the dahlia and/or a description. Your name will be on the back of the card, so as not to influence the vote.
• Dahlias will be displayed in clear glass or plastic vessels. If you have some water or soda bottles to donate to the Dahlia Challenge, please give them to Deirdre at the Board or General meeting, or bring them to St. James’s on Friday between 2-4 on September 10.
• During the tour, people will be asked to vote for their favorite dahlia.
The three most popular dahlias will be announced at the party on Sunday, September 12. Prizes are: $25 gift certificates from garden shops.
At the end of the day, on Saturday, Sharon Mulvey will pick the dahlia’s up for use as decoration at the party.
TICKET INFO: Advance tickets are SOLD OUT.
If you purchased your advanced tickets on-line, your actual tickets will be available at St. James’s Episcopal Church, 1018 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, CT, 06107 on Saturday, September 11, starting at 10 am – the tour ends at 4 pm. While supplies last, $25 same day tickets will also be available at St. James’s.
The Autumn Splendor Garden Tour will feature six fall gardens and the Pop-Up Garden Shop at St. James’s at 1018 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford, will have mixed planters, member grown house & outdoor plants, as well as garden related crafts, tools and recycled garden goodies.
Please plan to join your fellow garden club members and their guests on Sunday, September 12, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm* as we celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the West Hartford Garden Club. Relax and kick up your heels on the day following our Autumn Splendor Garden Tour. The party will be held on Sharon Mulvey’s beautiful lawn.
Period dress is optional.
We hope you will join us for the fun as we celebrate the garden club’s ninety years.
In case of rain on the 12th, we will move indoors to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1080 Boulevard.
Please remember to bring your gardening tools and to wear a mask.
