Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Sale: – Gather spring and summer planters, pots and other outdoor goodies. This is a great time to clear out for spring.
Please plan to give us at least one hour of your time during the morning. Please bring your favorite tools for weeding and pruning. A co-chair will arrive at the garden by 8:30 a.m.
PARKING: Parking will be in the paved lot next to the Amos Bull House on South Prospect Street. We encourage you to carpool as space is limited.
We plan to work if the rain is light. If it is pouring, you will get a cancellation call by 8:00 a.m.

Helen S Kaman Rose Garden
Join us for Rose Pruning Clinics on Thursday, April 6, and Thursday, April 13, in Elizabeth Park’s Helen S Kaman Rose Garden led by Rosarian Stephen Scanniello.
The Clinics are FREE and begin at 11 am & 1 pm. Participants are asked to bring their own gloves and pruning tools.

Nature into Art: Lessons from the Gardens of Wave Hill by Thomas

One of the last surviving estates in the five boroughs of New York, Wave Hill has developed over the last half-century into one of the foremost public gardens in the United States. Join author Thomas Christopher for a photographic tour of the Wave Hill gardens, and share in the many lessons these have to teach about designing and maintaining a more beautiful landscape.
Thomas Christopher is a graduate of the New York Botanical Garden School of Professional Horticulture and has been designing and maintaining gardens for more than four decades. A former contributing editor to Martha Stewart Living magazine, he is the author of more than a dozen books about gardening, most recently Nature into Art: The Gardens of Wave Hill. He also produces a weekly podcast, “Growing Greener,” a series of interviews with leaders of environmentally-informed gardening that is dedicated to making your landscape healthier, more sustainable, more beautiful, and more fun. His weekly column, “Be A Better Gardener,” circulates to more than 25 regional publications in southern and central New England with a total readership of 250,000. Thomas gardens in central Connecticut and the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts.

Russ Cohen Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 pm on Zoom – or join us in person at the Emanuel Synagogue (160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford) at 7 pm FREE for members, $10 non member donation Join Russ Cohen, expert forager and author of Wild Plants I Have Known…and Eaten, for a 60-minute slide show featuring at least two dozen species of native edible wild plants suitable for adding to your own landscape, or nibbling on as you encounter them in other locales. Keys to the identification of each species will be provided, along with edible portions, seasons of availability and preparation methods, along with guidelines for safe and environmentally responsible foraging. Russ will also include a few details regarding some native edible plants he has grown successfully from seed, and the partnerships he has made with conservation groups and others to add edible native plants to their landscapes.
