Please take the time to take a look at our garden sites at Spice Bush Swamp: both our current Pollinator Pathway Garden (near the parking lot, circled by brownstone rocks) and the new Bird and Pollinator Friendly Garden (over two foot bridges). If you see any weeds, feel free to pull them.
On Monday, May 30, 9 – 11 am, Madeleine plans to go to Spice Bush to plant. Please come join her if you can.
During the summer, she will keep the new garden cleared of invasives and water the new plantings and our Pollinator Garden. She has a two-week rotation planned. If you can spare an hour several times a week for two weeks to water, please let her know if you are willing to join the rotation.
She is planning to spend an hour or two in our Spice Bush Gardens on Monday mornings starting at 9 am (and possibly earlier as the temperatures rise, she will let you know). Beth Ann Sennett is also planning to garden there once a week. Any one is welcome to join us.
Meeting will be via Zoom if we cannot meet in person.

Rose Weekend Tours by Stephen Scanniello
Join Rosarian Stephen Scanniello for tours of the Helen S Kaman Rose Garden and the Heritage Rose Garden.
The Helen S Kaman Rose Garden is the oldest public rose garden in the United States and the third-largest Rose Garden in the country. The Heritage Rose Garden is Elizabeth Park’s garden of exceptionally old varieties of roses, some of which predate 1867.
No registration is required. The tours are FREE and begin at the flagpole outside the Cottage (the green building across from the Helen S Kaman Rose Garden).
Please help with the plantings for 4 pots and the center circle, as well as trimming and fertilizing the plantings in the back courtyard. Rain date is Wednesday at 10:00 am.
Many hands make light work–there is much to do–so please respond ASAP to Susan that you can help.
Join us for a lovely buffet luncheon as we celebrate another year of friendship and accomplishments of the West Hartford Garden Club.
PLEASE RESPOND BY MONDAY, MAY 23, 2022.

Do you ever wonder “Why did that design or horticulture specimen win the Blue Ribbon?” Are you interested in learning about “growing and showing” horticulture or the elements and principles of floral design? If so, Flower Show School will be the answer!
The Federated Garden Clubs of CT, Inc. (FGCCT) is pleased to offer the National Garden Clubs, Inc. Flower Show School, Course I. Registration is open to any Garden Club member. NGC provides the educational opportunity through its Flower Show Schools (FSS) Program whereby its members may become Accredited Flower Show Judges or attend sessions merely to enrich their knowledge of horticulture, design, and flower show procedure
Marj Johnson will head up the patio planting and will need members to help plant 5 patio planters and work with the residents (making a small flower pot for each). Please RSVP to Marj ASAP.
