WHGC Plant Sale @ Noah Webster House
May 17 @ 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Our Annual Plant Sale will be SATURDAY, MAY 17, rain or shine from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm at the Noah Webster House. Co-chairs Kathye Cipes and Susan Grew remind us this is always a fun day – and a
valuable fundraiser for our organization. Thanks to your participation, the sale is an opportunity to purchase proven, healthy plants at great prices. Last year we raised $1,490 and in 2023 we brought in $1,840. The sale is also an opportunity to welcome new and experienced gardeners in West Hartford with the knowledge, talents and enthusiasm of our members. There are lots of ways to volunteer: in addition to contributing plants, we need members on hand to talk about specific topics, including natives, pollinator-friendly and shade-tolerant plants.

OUR TIMELINE

Now: Scroll through your pictures to identify plants you might want to donate. Inventory any pots you have to be
shared. Save any flat boxes (e.g. the kind of box a case of sparkling water cans comes in) or nursery trays.

March: Start seeds for plants you want to donate and don’t forget the vegetables! Because we don’t want to spread disease or insects, please rinse the roots and use fresh potting soil.

April & May Meetings: Bring pots, trays and flat boxes you want to contribute so other members can use them. We will provide plant-identifying markers for you to put in each plant. Soil will also be available.

May: Dig plants as soon as the weather is warm enough to safely transplant them into smaller pots. NOTE: repotting plants several weeks prior to the plant sale ensures they’ll have had time to adjust to their displacement and look healthier at the time of the sale. Label all plants. Ideally, include a marker and print out a picture of the plant.

Plant drop-off is FRIDAY, MAY 16, FROM 1:30-4:30 pm at Noah Webster House. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be circulated at the next few club meetings.

You can sign up for a shift on Friday when we price and set up the sale OR help us sell on Saturday. Encourage your friends, family and neighbors to come to the Plant Sale!
